    5 New Women Councilors in the WPC

    We have 5 more more councilors joining the rare breed of women councilors in provincial councils in Sri Lanka. These 5 women bring up the number of women councilors to 16  out of a total of 450 councilors. We have a long way to go but congratulations ladies, you have done your part.

    The new councilors are:

    Rosy Senanyake (UNP, Colombo, tops the UNP list)

    Ashoka Lankatilake (UPFA, Colombo)

    Kokila Gunawardena (UPFA, Gampaha)

    Chandrika Sakalasuriya (UPFA, Gampaha)

    Sandhya Siriwardana (UPFA, Gampaha)

    Rose Fernando (UNP, Gampaha)

      Yes ladies while congratulating you for your achievements, I will like to add that as newly elected councilors you have taken up a very challenging positions in the political arena. You have to prove that women can do equally better. One prime responsibility to see that you make another line of women to take up politics show that this is not a pit of garbage any more. We as women have to see a good future for our children, mainly a violence free society where everyone can live in harmony. AS Rosy said in her campaign quality education for every one rich and poor, equal distribution of resources and above all to build a nation without dependency syndrome.
