7th Campaign in Jaffna
A team from the Campaign for Political Representation for Women (CPRW) attended a public meeting in Jaffna. The meeting was organized by Viluthu. The CPRW team, included …….. Participating from Jaffna were …….. M Remedius Marla Gorkatty Anton. Speakers Shanthini Sachithanandan, Sujata Gamage, Ashoka Lankatilake, Dulcie de Silva and Remy and Marla Gorkatty.
Several women leaders ……. as well as ….. a student representative for University of Jaffna spoke. They spoke feelingly about the fact that women leaders from other parts of the country visited Jaffna. They were encouraged and inspired by their presence.

They were encouraged and inspired by their presence.The team also visited with Mr. Douglas Devananda. The presence of Mrs. Dulicie de Silva, a respected women leader, greatly added to the cordiality of the meeting. Mr. Devananda was opinion that women’s representation should be 50%! However he was not too optimistic about the rest of the bill to amend the local government elections ordinance of 1989. He felt that more time was needed to understand nad resolve the impact of propsed reforms on minority parties.
